To the Ervin Family, my sincere condolences you. My heart hurts and still can’t seem to wrap my head on the loss of my cousin Barry. We just talked a week ago and was waiting to hear your voice again next month on our monthly call. I still remember you coming to Aunt Naomi house about 3 or 4 years ago at a Family get together during the holiday. I will so miss our talks Cuz. Love you much, Cuz Roxie

For all who knew Barry I pray God will console you and help you to find peace and comfort. There is no one word to describe Barry. Most would say he was intelligent, compassionate, thoughtful and resourceful. Although demanding, he was a tide that would raise all boats around him. I was one of those boats. My Friend walked with me for over 50 years in spite of my faults and he was as close as a brother. I was blessed to have him call me Friend, but God is a better Friend and has called Barry home after a long and courageous struggle with his health. I must rejoice for Barry who has found peace in our Father’s arms. Although I and those who knew Barry will be sorrowful knowing we will not hear that distinctive baritone voice, hear his gut busting laughter, feel that encouraging slap on the back or receive that thoughtful holiday greeting. Time will ease the hurt and sorrows will turn into joy as I remember and laugh about some silly thing we both did and somehow feel his love and presence. He used to recount one of his favorite stories from our high school days that occurred in Mr. Thompson’s health class. It was about a ten pound CPO jacket that I wore that winter. Even now, I can hear his laugh.
Your Friend forever

Barry was the big brother to me that I never knew I wanted. No matter how difficult things were in his life he would always go out of his way to make your life better. He truly was a beautiful human being who will be thought of often and mentioned frrequently. Barry made everyone he knew better by his example. He will be missed so much!

I GOT HIRED WITH BARRY AT YOUNGSTOWN POLICE IN 1993. THEIR WERE TEN OF US THAT GOT HIRED. BARRY WAS A GREAT PERSON AND WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR YOU. EVER HOLIDAY, HE WOULD BRING CANDY FOR ALL THE GIRLS THAT WORKED FOR THE CITY. HE WOULD COME UP TO THE RADIO ROOM AND I WOULD HELP HIM PUT NAMES ON ALL OF CANDY AND SEPARATE THEM FOR EACH DEPARTMENT. WE HAD BEEN TOGETHER AT MANY DINNERS WITH FELLOW OFFICERS AND THEIR WIVES. WHEN HE GOT SICK I WOULD CUT HIS GRASS AND SOMETIMES TAKE OUT THE TRASH, HE WILL BE SADLY MISSED. HE WAS LIKE FAMILY . BARRY RIP
