Walter E. Finney 85, of Fowler, passed away surrounded by his family on Friday, January 10, 2020. He was born on June 15, 1934 in Dunbar, West Virginia, the son of Paul and Pauline Finney.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Walter’s distinguished service to the United States of America was performed with exceptional duty and honor.
After returning home from the service, he obtained work at the Ravenna Arsenal and later had been employed by Coca-Cola. He retired from Yellow Freight System from where in 1995, he received a 3 million mile award with no accidents.
Walter most enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved taking care of his cattle, fishing on Lake Erie and watching all Cleveland Sports.
Loving memories of Gene will be carried on by his children, Greg (Marylou) of Champion, Janice (Bryan) of Cortland and Lisa Starcher of Fowler; his grandchildren, Greg, Jr. (Michelle) of Bazetta, Brett and Blake Starcher of Fowler; his four great-grandchildren, Brett and Bailey of Fowler, Maddox of Florida and Merrick of Bazetta; his brother, Douglas; his sister, Donna of Florida and his many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Walter in death were his parents; his wife of 57 years, Beverly, whom he married on June 15, 1956; his son-in-law, Albert “Butch” Starcher; his daughter-in-law, Tracy; his grandson, Branden; his brother, Thomas Finney; several nephews and a niece.
Per Walter’s wishes, a memorial service and military honors will be held at a later date.
